Musik Ekklesia's CD, The Vanishing Nordic Chorale, is released
March 25, 2011
The classical music label Sono Luminus has released the first recording by the sacred baroque ensemble Musik Ekklesia. Entitled The Vanishing Nordic Chorale, this CD features twenty Lutheran chorales, written by leading Scandinavian composers of the 17th through the early 20th centuries, along with works by the Baroque masters Michael Praetorius, Johann Crüger, Dieterich Buxtehude and J.S. Bach.
Recorded at the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center, on the campus of the University of Indianapolis, and at First Lutheran Church of Boston, Massachusetts, the chorales are performed on period instruments and sung in Danish, Norwegian and Swedish.
"This is beautiful musik-making that presents the roots of the Lutheran chorale in a simple and totally accessible way. It is engaging and extremely well done, and I could not recommend it more highly."
